Making App Uninstall Available Through Intune’s Company Portal: A Game-Changer

Hi all,
It’s been a while since we have posted a new blog but that is because we have been hard at work on improving Pckgr applications and updates.

I thought I would stop for a second to share that a long awaited feature has finally been released by Intune, you can now allow users to uninstall applications via the Company Portal (finally).

While it was a surprise that it took so long for this to be released we are very happy that it has.

Why is this feature so important?

For those unfamiliar with the significance of this update, here’s a quick summary. Previously, while we could push apps to devices through Intune and make them available for users to install via the Company Portal, there wasn’t a streamlined way to allow users to uninstall specific apps without administrative intervention.
This limitation often led to two primary challenges:

  1. User Experience: Without the ability to uninstall apps they no longer needed, users could end up with cluttered devices. This not only impacts device performance but also the overall user experience.
  2. Administrative Overhead: Administrators had to spend extra time manually processing uninstall requests, detracting from other mission-critical tasks. This can be especially painful when devices are utilizing a high level security baseline.

The New Uninstall Feature in Action

With the latest update, administrators can now mark certain apps as “available for uninstall” in the Company Portal. Here’s a brief overview of how it works:

Setup: Within the Intune admin console, when configuring an app, there’s a new option to make it ‘available for uninstall
.

User Access: Users can now open their Company Portal, navigate to the app in question, and find an “Uninstall” option next to it.

Benefits of the New Feature

  1. Empowering Users: Users can now take control of their devices, managing their apps based on current needs and priorities.
  2. Reducing IT Burden: IT departments can now focus on more complex, high-priority tasks, as the routine task of uninstalling apps gets democratized.
  3. Optimal Device Performance: With the ability to regularly clear out unnecessary apps, devices can maintain optimal performance and storage levels.

Final Thoughts

The addition of the uninstall feature in the Company Portal is a small change, but it provides a massive improvement to application management with Intune

Feel free to try it with a package from Pckgr!
