Removing Shortcuts from Intune Deployed Applications using Pckgr

Today’s blog looks at utilizing Pckgr’s Advanced Application Deployment to remove a desktop shortcut after installation has completed. For this example, we will demonstrate with a deployment of Mozilla Firefox.

Introducing Advanced Application Deployment

The Advanced Application Deployment feature was built to include the most popular request from our customers. One of these requested features was to improve user experience by automating the cleanup of desktop icons after application installations.

How It Works

The process begins by adding Firefox via Pckgr and opening up the deployment options.

Next enable the Advanced Apps sliders to reveal the “Remove Shortcut” option. When set to “Yes,” it prompts for the name of the shortcut to be removed after installation, including its extension (e.g., “Firefox.lnk”).

Deployment

With the application deployed to Intune we can now demonstrate an installation on the device. Initially, the Firefox shortcut is added to the desktop. However, upon completion of the installation, a cleanup script is triggered, designed to locate and remove the specified shortcut file, in this case, “Firefox.lnk,” from the desktop.

It may be necessary to perform a preliminary installation on a test device to verify the exact name of the shortcut for certain applications.

Conclusion

Thankyou for following along in this blog, I will continue to release more entries that show off the capabilities of the Advanced Application deployment. Stay tuned!
